What is this? And why?

Hello, I’m Emma. I teach people how to use technology, ideally, to achieve something.

I’m an Atlassian trainer, product specialist, and instructional designer with 20+ years in the Atlassian ecosystem. I’ve taught thousands of people worldwide, from those finding their way around Jira to teams figuring out what AI can usefully do for them.

Much of my non-teaching work involves developing and maintaining product training. When the software changes, someone has to update the instructions. Sometimes that someone needs a quiet moment first. Luckily, my robot friends help.

I worked as a consultant and administrator for Atlassian apps, setting up applications for all sorts of organizations. I've also done a fair amount of project management. I started using Atlassian as a front-end web developer.

Enough about me. This site is home to practical notes on Atlassian apps, Rovo, AI, and technology at work. You’ll find follow-ups to training sessions, answers to questions worth sharing, and things I’ve tried, learned, or found interesting enough to write about.

My starting point is usually: what does this actually help someone do? New technology is fascinating. Whether it makes anyone’s day easier is a separate question, and generally the more useful one.

I’m also quite lazy, in the sense that I object to doing the same tedious thing repeatedly when a computer could reasonably do it. In that spirit, I asked AI to help write this page. Apparently, even with a degree in something writing-related, I would rather outsource describing myself.

Expect useful explanations, occasional opinions, music references, and no doubt a lot of terrible jokes.

If you’ve arrived here after one of my training sessions, welcome back. There’s no assessment at the end.
